20 thousand of Latvia’s inhabitants visited IKEA Riga store the first day

Yesterday, on 30th of August, the first IKEA store in Latvia was opened. During the first day almost 20 thousand Latvians visited the store in Riga. The most popular purchases were cookware, bed textile and back to school furniture. The favorite food were meatballs and IKEA hotdogs.

“We are here to create better everyday life for the many Latvia’s inhabitants and I want to thank our first customers for an amazing first day in Latvia. We had almost 20 thousand of visitors, far exceeding our expectations”, - said Inga Filipova, IKEA Latvia Store Manager, while commenting the first operation day of IKEA store in Riga.

According to her, the most popular purchases were cookware, bed textile and back to school furniture, like work desks, chairs. Latvia’s customers also were buying sofa – beds and beds with mattresses.

Yesterday most of the store visitors visited IKEA restaurant as well. The favorite dish of Latvia’s inhabitants were the iconic IKEA hotdogs and Swedish meatballs.

“Yesterday Latvia’s residents visited not only the store, but IKEA restaurant for the first time as well. During the first day they ate 19 thousands of Swedish meatballs as well as around 3000 hot dogs, which you can buy for 0,30 Eur at IKEA. From the local dishes visitors were choosing cold soup and ribs – in total 1000 portions sold”, - said I. Filipova.

She added that from today IKEA restaurant introduces special breakfast meniu offer in Riga. “From now on early IKEA restaurant visitors, coming from 9.30 till 11.00, will be able to order Breakfast plate for 1 Eur with freshly baked croissant, egg, cheese, ham and coffee with free refill”, - commented IKEA Latvia Store Manager.

The size of IKEA Riga store is 34,5 thousand sq. m. Here visitors can find more than 8000 home furnishing products under one roof, from which almost 3000 will cost less than 10 Eur. IKEA store also has a 450 seats restaurant, IKEA Bistro café, known for its hot dogs and ice cream for 0,30 Eur and the Swedish food market, where visitors can buy typical Swedish food like meatballs, salmon, cinnamon buns.

IKEA Riga store is located at the edge of Riga (Bikeru street 2, Dreilini, Stopinu municipality) at the intersection of Juglas and Biķernieku streets and it is 15 minutes drive from Riga center. The store operating hours are 10.00 am – 9.00 pm, restaurant operating hours are 9.30 am – 8.30 pm.

Today IKEA opens in Riga

Today, on 30th of August, IKEA, the Swedish home furnishing retailer, has opened its first store in Latvia. The biggest IKEA store in the Baltic states will offer more than 8000 home furnishing products under one roof, from which almost 3000 will cost less than 10 Eur.

“IKEA vision, which we are bringing to Latvia’s residents, is the promise to create a better everyday life for the many people. Offering almost 3000 home items from furniture to decorations for less than 10 Eur shows our commitment to meet Latvia’s needs for functional, beautiful, qualitative and yet affordable furnishing. On top of that we seek for the best customer experience, that is why part of our furniture will have up to 25 years guarantee period, i.e. METOD kitchens. In addition to that we have a 90 day return policy on all products enabling our customers to bring back the products if they change their mind,” said Inga Filipova, IKEA Latvia Store Manager.

According to her, the main news IKEA brings to the market are low prices, wide range, furniture the same day, including such big furnishing systems like full kitchen, solutions to the small space living and different experience for consumers, who will find inspiration and solutions under one roof.

“Before entering the Latvian market, we carried out more than 30 studies to understand the needs and dreams of inhabitants of this country and to come up with solutions, which will help to live better life at home. Based on the findings, we are offering such localized solutions like small kitchens, home organization systems, kids rooms dedicated for two kids, interior for small space living,” said IKEA Latvia Store Manager.

The biggest IKEA store in the Baltic states
IKEA Riga store will be the biggest in Baltic states ‒ its’ size is 34,500 m2. According to the Store Manager the store in Riga is organized in 5 main parts – costumer starts his journey in the exposition hall on the 2nd floor, which is dedicated to inspiration and showing the solutions in real life conditions. Later on follows market hall with wide range of products from cutlery and home textiles to plants and home decor. The remaining parts are self-service area where visitors will be able to pick up the chosen furniture and bring them home the same day. Additional services areas, where visitors will be able to order home delivery, leasing, bring back the products they want to return, will end the visitor journey through the store.

IKEA store will also have a 450 seats restaurant, IKEA Bistro café, known for its hot dogs and ice cream for 0,30 Eur and the Swedish food market, where visitors can buy typical Swedish food like meatballs, salmon, cinnamon buns.

Sustainable living at home
Apart from good design and functional solutions, Swedish company IKEA is also known for its focus on sustainability. At IKEA Riga store more than 500 goods will be dedicated for sustainable living at home, which will help to save resources, recycle. Also, part of the furniture and other goods are produced from recycled materials.

“IKEA strives to reduce its footprint in environment and on the same time encourages and supports sustainable living at homes. That is why Latvia’s residents will be able to buy energy saving LED lamps, choose kitchen, produced from recycled plastic bottles or buy chairs from recycled plastic and woods chips. These products are not only sustainable, but also award winning design solutions”, - said I. Filipova.

The store building itself is also equipped with green solutions: LED lightening, solar panels for hot water, various materials recycling technologies etc.

Special attention to families with children
IKEA Riga store will be convenient for shopping for families with children. Special attention is paid to provide safe and entertaining environment for kids: children from 3 – 7 years old can stay for free at playroom Småland, all exposition area is adjusted in a way that children could try out the furniture and play around.

“At IKEA we are offering special assortment for kids: we have furniture from the very first crib to teenager room, toys, tools for developing kids creativity. At the same time, we create inviting environment for little ones at the store and the restaurant. We want to be not only the place to shop for furniture or home items, but also a place for the whole family to hang out,” said IKEA Riga Store Manager.

IKEA opens this week – everything you need for your home under one roof

On the 30 August, IKEA, the Swedish home furnishing retailer, will open the first store in Latvia. The biggest IKEA store in the Baltics will offer more than 8000 home furnishing products and solutions – everything you need for your home under one roof. 3 days before the store opening, take a look at the new IKEA store and the offer it will bring to Latvia.

“The vision of IKEA is to create a better everyday life for the many people. To achieve it, we offer a wide range of well-designed, functional home furnishing products at prices so low that as many people as possible would be able to afford them. Everything we do at IKEA – from product design, production and distribution is done with the low-price in mind and caring attitude towards our customers,” said IKEA Latvia Store Manager Inga Filipova, while presenting the store to the media representatives.

At the IKEA store the journey of a customer will start in the showroom on the 2nd floor, where more than 50 fully furnished rooms will feature most of the furniture and provide inspiration and solutions for actual homes. The showroom is followed by the market hall where most of home furnishing accessories are located. Finally the visitors will go through the self-service area, where they can pick up the goods. All the products in the store are ready for immediate take-away. At the end of the journey the customer can apply for the services they need to complete the shopping, such as finance services, home delivery, exchange and returns among others.

According to I. Filipova, the new IKEA store will provide a completely different experience for customers: everything needed at home under one roof – from furniture, to decorations, tableware and more. All the furniture is available on the same day, including big furnishing systems like full kitchen.

Inspiration and solutions especially for Latvian residents
According to IKEA Riga Store Manager, a lot of attention was paid to understand the needs of Latvia’s residents and to provide IKEA solutions to meet them, especially such as small-space living, furnishing for a limited budget, storage and organisation solutions for home.
 
“Before coming to Riga, we carried out more than 30 studies and surveys on how Latvia’s inhabitants are living at home. We investigated what are their living conditions, their challenges, dreams and needs. Based on the conclusions we are providing the solutions and inspirations in the IKEA store for the entire home from kitchens to living rooms, from hallways to bathrooms,” added I. Filipova. The main difference, according to her, is that IKEA does not focus on pieces of furniture alone, it provides furnishing solutions which creates the added value and increases the functionality of home.

“In addition to our wide range of quality home furnishing products and low prices, the IKEA store offers multiple solutions. For example, if you buy a wardrobe, we will suggest systemic storage solutions to get the most functionality out of the wardrobe. Or if you come with the challenge of a small-space living, we will offer you our expertise and inspiration to meet it and make the most of your home,” explained I. Filipova.

A day out for the whole family
IKEA Riga store will be convenient not only for a shopping trip, but also for a day out for the whole family. The store is planned in a way that visitors could not only shop and get inspired, but also have a meal at the IKEA restaurant or let kids play in areas dedicated for them.

“At the IKEA store there is a 450-seat restaurant located between the showroom and the market hall offering a great variety of food, including such famous dishes as Swedish meatballs. At the exit the customers can visit the IKEA Bistro where they can enjoy the well-known hot dogs or ice cream for 0.30 EUR. Special attention is paid to provide a safe and entertaining environment for children: kids between the age of 3 and 7 can visit the supervised play room Småland for free and infants get free food at the IKEA restaurant,” says I. Filipova.

400 000 copies of IKEA catalogue will be delivered to people in Latvia

The distribution of the first Latvian IKEA catalogue has started! Within the following 2 weeks, the IKEA Catalogue – home furnishing solutions and interior inspiration in almost 300 pages – will reach more than 400 000 homes in Riga and the neighbouring areas.

IKEA Latvia Store Manager Inga Filipova says that, first and foremost, the IKEA catalogue is about people and their life at home.

“This year the IKEA catalogue focuses on celebrating different needs that people have in their life at home. Featuring seven homes, each with its many stories to tell, the IKEA catalogue invites everyone to an “open house” in these homes that are filled with inspiration for everyday life. Each story of these homes builds around the same topic – different needs and lives joined together with all the challenges, tensions and dreams,” notes I. Filipova.

The content of the IKEA catalogue is based on global researches of living at home, targeting needs and dreams of the many people. According to the Life at Home Report, implemented in Latvia on July 2018, one out of two inhabitant is pleased with their homes. 62% of the respondents said that their home is the best place on Earth, whereas 6 out of 10 persons noted that their home needs renovation and 75 % named limited financial resources as the main obstacle for starting renovation.

“IKEA hears the needs and dreams of people, and we have found a way to offer a chance for a change for a reasonable price. The catalogue greets the people of Latvia not only with Swedish design furnishing examples at affordable price, but also inspiration and solutions for small-space living, living with children and other everyday life situations,” says IKEA Latvia Store Manager.

The IKEA catalogue is an exceptional annual publication since 1951, when the first copy was issued in Sweden by Ingvar Kamprad, the founder of IKEA. This year, the IKEA catalogue will be issued in 50 countries in 37 different languages – in total more than 190 million copies. Besides Latvian printed catalogue, IKEA will launch also a digital version of the catalogue in Latvian and Russian. Digital catalogue will be available on www.ikea.lv from 30 August.

About “Life at home” research
The local Life at Home Report is a qualitative and quantitative survey, which was implemented in Latvia in July 2018. In total 500 inhabitants of Latvia participated in the online survey and home visits. The survey was run by RAIT Group.

The first IKEA store in Latvia opens on 30 August

IKEA, the Swedish home furnishing retailer, will open the first store in Latvia on 30 August. The store is located on the very edge of Riga (Biķeru Street 2, Dreiliņi, Stopiņu Municipality). It will be the biggest IKEA store in the Baltics. Total size: 34.5 thousand square metres and offering visitors more than 8000 different Swedish design home furnishing items at a price affordable for the many.

“Today we start the count-down of days left till the opening of the first IKEA store in Latvia, launching the IKEA catalogue distribution to all homes in Riga and in the closest territories around. From the 30 August we will be welcoming the first visitors at the biggest IKEA store in the Baltics. The vision of IKEA is to create a better everyday life for the many people, offering well-designed, functional, affordable home furnishing products and solutions”, says Inga Filipova, IKEA Latvia Store Manager.

The floor space of the new IKEA Riga store is 34.500 m2 build on a 10-hectare land plot, within a 15 minutes-drive from Riga city centre, at the intersection of Juglas Street and Biķernieku Street. IKEA store in Riga will offer more than 8000 Swedish design home furnishing items from kitchens, living room, children furniture to cutlery and home decorations.

Moreover, in the IKEA store there will be a restaurant, Bistro and the Swedish food market. The IKEA restaurant will have 450 seats and will offer traditional Swedish food, such as meatballs, salmon, along with the local traditional dishes. The iconic IKEA dishes like hot-dogs and ice-cream will be sold in the Bistro for a regular 0.30 EUR price.

The working hours of the store will be from 10.00 a.m. until 9.00 p.m. The working hours of the restaurant will be from 9.30 a.m. until 8.30 p.m.

Paul Mason Properties, SIA, is the IKEA franchisee for Latvia and is under the same ownership as the IKEA operating in Lithuania and Iceland. The total investment for the IKEA Riga store is already more than 50 million EUR.

IKEA Latvia is looking for more than 100 employees

IKEA Latvia will be searching for dozens of employees for different load jobs. The first store in Latvia will open in autumn 2018 with more than 200 employees.

Thus, we serve for growth-enhancing culture and for equal and responsible working environment – from various trainings to safe everyday work, i.e. all IKEA employees wear uniforms and safety shoes. In the spring and summer of 2018, IKEA Latvia will search for more than 30 employees in sales, more than 30 in customer relations, more than 20 in catering, more than 20 in logistics and more than 20 employees in cleaning. Job opportunities will be for both full and part-time employees. “Globally and also in Latvia IKEA will offer a competitive compensation package and maintain a strong company culture. The local restaurant will offer a real taste of Sweden with specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries or salmon dishes. It will be a family-friendly shop with a supervised child playground, play areas throughout the store, baby care rooms and preferred family parking.



IKEA Riga navigation tower has been installed

The IKEA Navigation sign tower was installed at the site where the IKEA store will be opened at the end of this summer. The 35 meter high sign tower revealed the exact location of the store on the edge of Riga (Biķeru Street 2, Dreiliņi, Stopiņu Municipality). The installing of the sign tower marks an important milestone towards the store opening.

“With raising of the sign tower, we are marking the exact location of IKEA store, where the first visitors will be greeted already at the end of summer. The goal of the sign tower is to serve visitors and drivers to find IKEA store from a distance, giving them time to prepare for the exit to the store. It is a strong communication tool for the inhabitants and it also helps to introduce the brand in a new market”, – says Inga Filipova, IKEA Latvia Store Manager.

According to her, the remaining important milestones towards the store opening will be the commissioning of the building, building and finalizing the exposition rooms as well as filling the racks with goods and preparing the IKEA restaurant for visitors. The Navigation sign tower, bearing yellow IKEA name on characteristic blue background, will be best visible for visitors coming from Juglas and Biķernieku streets, but will also be seen from the neighboring areas.

The store manager also informed, that IKEA is currently looking to fill more than 100 jobs in sales, customer relations, food, logistics and other fields, mostly for part-time work. “This year IKEA in Lithuania was announced the best Lithuanian retail employer of 2018. We are coming to Latvia with the same ambition, culture and benefits offering for Latvia’s employees. Anyone willing to join our team is most welcome to apply”, – says Inga Filipova.

IKEA opens the store in Latvia, autumn 2018

Today IKEA Retail Latvia announced it is submitting plans to the City of Riga and Stopiņi Municipality, which would make it possible to meet the many people in the Baltics with a second IKEA store. Pending approvals, construction of the IKEA store will begin in spring of 2017, with an opening at the end of August 2018. Until then, customers can shop at the closest IKEA store in Vilnius, Lithuania. Paul Mason Properties Ltd. will operate the store under a franchise agreement with Inter IKEA Systems BV.

"We are very pleased to open the first IKEA store in Latvia. Opening an IKEA store in a new country is not only a long-term commitment, it is also the responsibility to contribute in development of our brand vision – to create a better everyday life for the many people,” said Sigurdur Palmason, Chairman of Paul Mason Properties Ltd. “We have been observing the Latvian market for over a decade, and we are very pleased to finally be able to bring IKEA to Latvia.”

Located approximately 8 km east of downtown Riga, the proposed standard-format IKEA store and the over 1,000 parking spaces would be built on a land plot at the intersection of Juglas Street and Biķernieku Street, with easy access from all parts of Riga and the region. The store plans reflect the same unique architectural design for which IKEA stores are known worldwide. The size of the IKEA store will be 34,500 m2 on a 10-hectare land plot, and the total investment will be close to EUR 60 million. It is envisaged that further retail investments on the site could total over EUR 100 million.

The IKEA store will feature nearly 8,000 exclusively designed items, 55 inspirational room-settings, three model home interiors, a supervised children’s play area and a 450-seat restaurant serving Swedish specialties such as meatballs with lingonberries, salmon plates, as well as local dishes. Other family-friendly features include a ‘Children’s IKEA’ area in the Showroom, baby care rooms, play areas throughout the store and preferred family parking. In addition to up to 300 jobs that are expected during the construction phase, approximately 400 co-workers would join the IKEA family after the new store opens.
