The Institute of Agricultural Resources and Economics is a bioeconomy research and crop breeding centre with a history of over 100 years. With work taking place in various locations across Latvia and often remotely, the company wants the office to be a cosy and functional meeting place where colleagues can gather, share experiences and work both individually and as a team.
The company approached us with a vision for a new office space. We found this task particularly exciting as the aim was not to create a traditional office with fixed workstations, but a welcoming, comfortable and functional meeting point for employees who work in regional locations or remotely on a daily basis. The idea was to create a co-working space that could be used both for individual work and as a meeting room. The challenge was to create a productive, user-friendly yet cosy and welcoming work environment.
The designer decided to create one focal point: a functional and elegant arrangement of light coloured wood desks. Their size and shape allow the four to six temporary workstations to be easily accommodated and spacious enough. At the same time, they are the best companions when organising team meetings or meetings with clients. To complement the convenient tables and to brighten up the space, we have created a desk centrepiece made from plants. It visually divides the wide surface, creating a more personal feel in each workspace. Given that the office is intended for temporary visits, it was important to create a spacious, bright and welcoming space. Comfort was also kept in mind by including the ergonomic white chairs.
To make employees feel truly welcome and to allow them to enjoy the occasional break, we also created a lounge corner. The cosy dark grey sofa, black statement club chair and yellow table provide a pleasant contrast to the earthy tones of the work area. The lounge corner is a nice reminder that it's time to put work aside for a while and unwind whilst enjoying a cup of coffee or tea. The sophisticated-looking floor lamp gives the corner a special and cosy feel. We also included plenty of storage space: the dark blue glass cabinets serve as storage and as a design element. We designed the corner to be functional, yet aesthetically consistent with the rest of the room.
