IKEA is aiming high in terms of sustainable range, and this August we launched a brand new product, a true sensation for food lovers – plant balls. It is a nature-friendly and sustainable alternative to the traditional Swedish meatballs. Try saving the planet while enjoying a delicious meal – these plant balls give it all. They are made only of plant-based ingredients, thus leaving 25 times less of an ecological footprint than meatballs. It is the taste of the future.
Zane Grēviņa adds to the planet-friendly taste
Zane Grēviņa is a beloved food blogger and author of a highly recognised cookbook. She is a warm-hearted culinary mastermind and she truly cares for the well-being of our planet. Moreover, Zane tries to include sustainable habits in her daily life, among other things by choosing foodstuffs responsibly, growing her own greenery and riding a bicycle throughout the year.
Pasta and plant balls in delicious harmony
When Zane tasted HUVUDROLL plant balls for the first time, she was positively surprised by the texture so much resembling meatballs.
Zane made her own recipe, bringing together the great taste of pasta, tomato sauce, plant balls and cheese.
Everyone will get a chance to enjoy the meal prepared following Zane's recipe at the IKEA restaurant between 21 September and 25 October.
Swedish classics
The first IKEA meatballs were served in 1985. Almost three decades later, we started trading them to hungry visitors in Latvia. This year, we are introducing another novelty - a better version of Swedish meatballs without meat.
The new plant ball is made with vegetable protein, but has the same great taste and texture as the original. Need a proof? Visit the IKEA Restaurant and try our new traditionally served plant balls.
Available from the 1st of August.
For those who love cooking
If you like to spend time in the kitchen, visit IKEA Swedish Food Market and bring home some frozen HUVUDROLL plant balls. They are very easy to prepare.
