Agnese and Mārtiņš live in an apartment in Ogre and the room they have decided to renovate is their shared Home Office. The one who decided to take part in the makeover show was Agnese, as she spends here more time. Agnese admits that this room has long been a victim of "it's ok" attitude when everybody knows that something needs to change but none can be bothered to actually do something. But now this has to change.

A room with a looooooong history

The apartment is very dear to Agnese as she has spent all her childhood and teenage years up until her studies. She says she never really felt the need to change something as the interior satisfied all the basic needs. But now she finds the time has come for something new. The old storage solution is almost falling apart, the room is dark and not at all comfortable for two people to be working in.

It's all in the stars

To get the right inspiration for an astronomy-themed makeover, IKEA Interior Designer Katrīne sets up a meeting in an observatory. In this meeting, Katrīne and Agnese get to know blogger and passionate traveller Zane Eniņa. Together, they find out lots of exciting facts about space and Agnese turns out to be a dedicated hobby astronomer. One of her most important points of interest are full sun eclipses. That is a reason for travelling: she travels to places where it can be seen.

Looking for the cosmic vibe

Interior Designer and Agnese look for inspiration together, combining different images, colours and quaint accessories in a moodboard which will become the guiding star in the creative process. Pure white background acts as a contrast point for hues of warm red and deep blue, and the combination is topped off with metallic and natural accents that add "that little something" to the whole.

A harmony in blue

The omnipresent hue of the new interior is a deep, saturated blue that dominates one wall and resonates throughout the room, echoing in the indigo blinds, richly coloured carpet where shades of blue flow and ebb in a wavelike pattern, plush, midnight blue armchair and even the nuances of the decorative canvas. White furniture adds freshness to the overall atmosphere and the impressive contrast is softened by earth tones in chair and pouffe.

Now it's open, now it's not

Where there is workspace, there must be storage. Here, the Interior Designer has used a clever combination of open, glass door and closed cabinets that offer a wide range of possible solutions. While open shelves are best for things that are needed often and have to be close at hand, glass door cabinets are great for keeping things visible jet dust-free. For small things that often create cluttered impression, there is a drawer unit and a big wardrobe on one side of the door. The drawer unit reflects the blue combinations on the other wall, creating a visual equilibrium. The desk has been left free to move up and down to ensure flexible working position.

"If you ask me what is the most important thing in a home office interior, my answer ir quite simple: it's functionality and comfort! It's nice to have a possibility to change position if the table is adjustable and just as nice to have flexible furniture, for example, on wheels so you can move it whereever you like. Don't forget to rest during work: set up a comfortable area for relaxing before you have to concentrate again."
Adding more space
One cannot fail to notice the spacious balcony by the room. Katrīne sees it as an integral part of this space and so she decides to incorporate it even more by adding a couple of outdoor chairs, a coffee table and some greenery. The simple setup continues with the colour theme inside and adds fresh note to this outside space that now invites to work in fresh air or just relax for a while.
