Meet the new limited edition collection of the “IKEA Art Event 2019” rugs created by eight contemporary artists. These art pieces are a mash-up between age-old rug techniques and the worlds of avantgarde fashion, tattoo art and sculptural objects.
“Craig Green”
Designed by London born designer Craig Green, one of the most innovative British fashion designers specialising in menswear.

Fashion designer known for different structures and liquid filled clothing has also put his original thoughts into this rug. “I was interested in exploring the idea of paradise, of escaping reality. Of making a portal or doorway to transport us to somewhere better”, he explains.
“Seulgi Lee”
Designed by Korean-French artist Seulgi Lee and based on French saying: “Happy as fish in water”.

The artist claims that any rug can change the room. “With this dhurrie, I wanted to bring the light of water inside. I thought of Northern Indian artisans, the city of Ayodhya, ancient Korean Queen Heo Hwang-ok and, above all, the power of colours. Let's be happy. As happy as fish in water”, says Seulgi Lee.
“Misaki Kawai”
Designed by Japanese artist Misaki Kawai whose installations made out of papier-mâché, wood, fabric, and other materials are well known all over the world.

The artist believes that art is all about having fun. “I find inspiration in funny, goofy and fluffy things. This is why I really enjoyed designing my furry rug. The rug is comfortable and full of colours, so I believe it will impress the many people. Just come and cuddle these big cats”, invites Misaki.
“Noah Lyon”
Designed by multidisciplinary artist Noah Lyon based between New York City and Sweden. His art is exhibited in galleries and museums including MoMA, The Tate Britain, The Menil Collection, The Brooklyn Museum and The Whitney Museum of American Art.

“This rug depicts the whirlwind of interconnected life as our world tumbles through the universe. I was inspired by the Navajo whirling log. It's the story of a man who encounters whirlpools and spirits that teach him things of great value to his people”, says the artist.
“SupaKitch”
Designed by French artist SupaKitch known for his eclectic approach to art mixing several different techniques such as acrylic paint, tattoo, resin, and others.

“I wanted to play with the concept of the classic animal rug and did this through the snake, a spiritual animal that heals and represents rebirth after shedding its skin”, explains the artist.
“Filip Pagowski”
Designed by Filip Pagowski born in a family of Polish artists and known for his vivid graphic designs. Amongst others, Pagowski's clients include Comme Des Garcons, The New Yorker, SAKS 5th Avenue, Le Monde and New York Times.

Filip’s rug was inspired by the notion of weaving. “The abstract rhythm of an endless pattern built on the same grid results in a kind of charming, handmade imperfection”, says the artist.
