More and more people are interested in reducing the impact they have on the planet, but that many don’t really know how to do it. To make this easier and more affordable, we have loads of money-saving products and solutions to help you save water, energy and reduce waste. They may seem like small things – but that’s the beauty of small actions: they all add up!

Energy & resources

Being a large business comes with large responsibilities. Thus, we’re busy making more from less, recycling, turning waste into resources and protecting our nature. For us, choosing materials is about making responsible decisions. When we’re not able to use renewable resources, we aim for recycled or recyclable ones.

Climate & environment

To make the planet a safer and healthier place for generations to come, we are transforming our business and value chain to drastically reduce our climate footprint. This applies to every aspect of what we do, from the way we source energy and materials to how we design our products.

Did you know?

  • Striving for circularity, we design all our new products to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured and finally recycled.
  • Switching from wood to paper pallets reduced our footprint of transporting IKEA products by 75,000 tonnes of CO2 per year.
  • More than 60% of IKEA products are based on renewable materials and more than 10% contain recycled materials.
  • We have switched our entire lighting range to energy-efficient LED since 2015.
  • We have removed all single-use plastic products from our home furnishing range globally since 2020.
  • We have removed non-rechargeable alkaline batteries from the range since 2022.
  • We’re committed to reaching the goal of 100% renewable energy for all IKEA operations by 2030.

Healthy & sustainable food

What we eat has an impact not only on our wellbeing but on the whole planet, too. This is why we strive to offer delicious, healthy and sustainable food for the many.

A better world, one coffee break at a time

All our coffee is UTZ certified and meets EU organic farming standards. Which means it is organically grown without the use of chemicals and pesticides, ensuring more sustainable growing methods and improving livelihoods of farmers.

Chocolate you can feel good about eating

The cocoa in all IKEA-branded chocolate bars meets strict, independent requirements to ensure sustainable farming standards and fair conditions for workers. You can trace the origin of the cocoa beans in your chocolate bar or biscuit at www.utzcertified.org/IKEA.

An ocean full of flavour

All salmon served and sold at IKEA comes from farms that are certified to the ASC global standard for responsibly farmed seafood, while all wild-caught fish and shrimp come from MSC-certified fisheries protecting seafood supplies for generations to come.

Towards a plant-based future

Knowing that a plant-based diet is one of the most significant actions an individual can take to reduce their climate footprint, we focus on increasing the share of nutritious plant-based alternatives.
