Manage your home from the sofa

With DIRIGERA hub in your home, you get new ways of managing your smart products from IKEA - individually, by room or simultaneously - especially since the hub enables the use of the IKEA Home smart app. Everyone in the home with a mobile device or tablet can download and use the app to control the home, and remote controls are the perfect tool for guests or when they quickly want to turn on, off or dim lights.

Use the app to dim the lights and change to warmer tones above the coffee table to appease tired evening eyes. Use the remote control later to turn off the same lights. Ask your voice assistant to turn up the music when your hands are busy chopping tomatoes. Schedule the bedroom air purifier to prepare for bedtime. And press a shortcut button by the door when leaving out the door to run the Scene where everything is safely turned off (including the shirt steamer).

IKEA Home smart app

The IKEA Home smart app will be the main access to your smart home when you use it with DIRIGERA hub. The app guides you through the process of setting up and managing your smart products, placing them in your rooms at home, and scheduling things you want to run on their own via timers. You and everyone in the home can choose quick tasks like checking what lights are turned on and off, what level the air purifier is running on and the name of that song being looped upstairs.

In the IKEA Home smart app, you have the option to connect to a voice assistant and control your smart home with the sound of your voice. IKEA Home smart works with Google Home, Apple Home and Alexa.

The IKEA Home smart app is available on the App Store for iPhone or  Google Play for Android.
What is Zigbee and what does it mean?

A network standard like Zigbee enables smart products to talk to each other. With TRÅDFRI gateway, it's the technology behind Zigbee that enables you to manage your smart products from IKEA with our app and remote controls.

The Zigbee protocol has been around for some years and is a well-known standard used by smart products.

What is Matter and what does it mean?

A network standard like Matter enables smart products to talk to each other. With DIRIGERA hub, it's the technology behind Matter that enables you to manage your smart products from IKEA with our app and remote controls.

Matter is a new smart home standard, developed with 200+ companies in the smart home industry. At IKEA, we're actively working in the development of Matter and are committed to supporting it.

Do I need a remote control to manage my smart home?

With DIRIGERA hub, you can control your home and add new smart products to it without a remote control with the IKEA Home smart app. If fixed on a wall or kept by the sofa, remote controls are more accessible than an app, making it easier for guests and other people visiting your home. Remote controls also work even if your internet connection is down – or if you forgot where you put your phone.

Can I get support from IKEA with setting up my smart home?

DIRIGERA hub and the smart home experience is designed to be easy to use and convenient to set up. You will be guided by the simple and convenient installation process in the IKEA Home smart app as to how to add your smart products and start your smarter life at home.

And with an increased memoy capacity, you'll be able to connect more smart products than before for a quicker and more stable experience.

What is the difference between TRÅDFRI gateway and DIRIGERA hub?

The closest smart product should be placed within 10 metres (the range is measured in open air) from DIRIGERA hub. Each smart product then creates a network and increases the coverage, as long as each product is within 10 metres of another one.

Can I place DIRIGERA hub outdoors?

The hub must be located indoors and near your Wi-Fi router since they connect with a network cable. DIRIGERA hub can be placed lying on a flat surface or mounted on the wall. Do not leave the hub in direct sunlight or near any heat source since it may overheat.

How do I connect DIRIGERA hub to my Wi-Fi router and local network?

DIRIGERA hub connects to your Wi-Fi router with the included ethernet cable.

Can I still control my smart home from IKEA even if my internet connection is down?

Yes, both DIRIGERA hub and TRÅDFRI gateway must be connected to your Wi-Fi router, but they don't need an actual internet connection. You can still control your smart products with remote controls or through the app as long as your mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Can DIRIGERA hub be repaired and/or recycled?

We do not offer repairs of DIRIGERA hub. For recycling, special waste handling may be required. Please contact your local authorities for more information.

Where in my home should DIRIGERA hub be placed?

The hub must be located indoors near your Wi-Fi router since they connect with a network cable. DIRIGERA hub can be placed lying on a flat surface or mounted on the wall. Do not leave the hub in direct sunlight or near any heat source since it may overheat.

Can I add multiple DIRIGERA hubs to one home?

Yes, but the IKEA Home smart app can only be connected to one hub at a time.

Yes, anyone on the same Wi-Fi network with a mobile or tablet device can download the IKEA Home smart app and access your smart home set-up.

Can I use the IKEA Home smart app with TRÅDFRI gateway?

No, the app "IKEA Home smart" only works with DIRIGERA hub, and the app "IKEA Home smart 1" is only compatible with TRÅDFRI gateway.

Yes, the IKEA Home smart app connects with DIRIGERA hub and your smart products when you are using the same Wi-Fi. However, in the app you can set up Scenes where you choose which of your smart products should be turned on or off at a specific time. This is a perfect way to, for example, schedule lights to be turned on just before you come home at night or to set a timer for the roller blinds to temporarily roll down at midday to block out the sun, and later roll up again when sun is gone.

Is it possible to add smart products from other brands to the IKEA Home smart app?

No, only smart products from IKEA can be connected to DIRIGERA hub and managed in the IKEA Home smart app. Our range of smart products solves needs throughout the home and we continously develop new products where we integrate technology into home furnishing items for the home.

I want to control my smart products with the IKEA Home smart app, what do I need to do?

How about guests in my smart home, how can they control things like lighting?

With DIRIGERA hub, you can control your home in many different ways, and our range of remote controls is one way that suits a home with guests very well. Remote controls makes the stay easier for guests and other people visiting your home.

How do I update the IKEA Home smart app, DIRIGERA hub and my smart products?

The apps IKEA Home smart and IKEA Home smart 1 can be updated in either App Store or Google Play, wherever you first downloaded it. Make sure to keep your app updated to enjoy the latest features!

Do I need the Sonos app to stream music to my SYMFONISK speaker, or can I use the IKEA Home smart app for that?

The Sonos app is needed to set up your SYMFONISK speaker, and can also be used to browse and play music. Similar to the Sonos app, the IKEA Home smart app can also stream music to speakers of your choice and can also be included in Scenes. After all, waking up to the sound of your favourite playlist is great!

What type of support can I get for my smart home from IKEA (DIRIGERA hub, TRÅDFRI gateway, IKEA Home smart app and smart products)?

Can I keep expanding my smart home with new product releases from IKEA if I have a TRÅDFRI gateway?

As we keep developing new smart products, and as the technology they require also develops rapidly, not all smart products will be able to connect to TRÅDFRI gateway and will require DIRIGERA hub instead.

For how long will I be able to use my smart products with DIRIGERA hub?

Already purchased smart products from IKEA can be connected to DIRIGERA hub and managed in the IKEA Home smart app. As new features, standards, and safety improvements are being added, older products may not support these. This is a result of our work to improve the smart home system and make it more convenient for the many people.

My Apple HomeKit integration does not show any or all devices connected to DIRIGERA.

We have noticed some users seem to have problems with Homekit not recognising all devices connected to DIRIGERA. Please try to fully remove the integration from Homekit and the IKEA Home smart app, reboot DIRIGERA by cutting power off for a few seconds, let it restart and set the integration up again.

Is there an easy way to transfer devices from TRÅDFRI gateway to DIRIGERA hub?

No. It would be fun to just swipe devices from TRÅDFRI gateway over to DIRIGERA hub but it was not possible to do this. On a good note though: onboarding and pairing devices to DIRIGERA is much smoother and easier. A remote is not required and multiple devices can be paired at the same time. You also don’t have to worry about which room they are placed in, it can be changed at any time to the way you like. Select the device you would like to move, click on the pen symbol and “Change rooms”.

Can I use the IKEA Home smart app on my iPad / the app on my iPad looks strange?

At the moment there is a basic support version for iPads available. An upgraded iPad version is already on our to do-list!

When will adaptive lighting be added as a feature?

Adaptive lighting is on our to do-list for a later release and we will come back with more on this once the time has come.

Can I set my motion sensor to not turn on lights that have been switched on through a TRÅDFRI/STYRBAR remote or in the IKEA Home smart app?

No, this is not possible as of now. We are currently looking into more functions and options for the motion sensor.

Can I set a scene to last longer that 11 hours and 59 minutes?

For now, if you want to set an individual end time, you can create a new scene with a reverse-order, e.g. setting lights to "off" instead of "on" at the desired time. More options and features can be expected in future releases.

Where can I find timers in the IKEA Home smart app?

Timers have been made a part of scenes. You can find them in each scene's settings.

Can I add more than one scene to my shortcut button?

For now with DIRIGERA, one scene can be added to the TRÅDFRI shortcut button, more options and features can be expected in future releases.

How can I set my scene to follow the timing of both sunrise and sunset?

For now, you can create one scene, e.g. starting devices with sunrise and another scene with the same devices from the first scene ending with sunset. More options and features can be expected in future releases.

How can I see the air quality in the IKEA Home smart app?

For DIRIGERA, this is not avilable at the moment. More options and features can be expected to be added in future releases.

I'm having problems connecting several integrated lights or GU10 bulbs to DIRIGERA.

When several light sources are connected to one physical switch, it might be that you need to follow the rhythm very precisely to bring all of them into pairing mode at the same time. Please try to watch the instructional video in the app carefully. Depending on the current maybe the rhythm needs adjustment.

Can I add more than one DIRIGERA hub to the IKEA Home smart app?

No. For now, only one DIRIGERA hub can be connected to the app.

How can I see the firmware version of devices connected to DIRIGERA hub in the IKEA Home smart app?

Select the device in the IKEA Home smart app, click on the pen tool and "About device".

I am having problems connecting TRÅDFRI remote to DIRIGERA. Factory reset is not working.

Please try to change the battery. A low energy coincell battery might affect performance and the factory reset process.

I am having problems connecting STYRBAR remote to DIRIGERA. Factory reset is not working.

Please check if batteries are empty or on low energy, this can affect performance as well as the factory reset process. During the factory reset, make sure to not accidentally press the top of the remote, this could interfere with the process.

My TRÅDFRI remote batteries are dying all the time.

This could be due to a recent firmware bug draining them. Please change the battery, factory reset it and add it again to DIRIGERA hub/TRÅDFRI gateway. The newest firmware will be pushed automatically to the remote.

Can I have my Google Assistant/Apple HomeKit integration connected to both TRÅDFRI gateway and DIRIGERA hub?

Yes, it is technically possible, however for best user experience we recommend to use either TRÅDFRI gateway or DIRIGERA hub.

How do I know I have the right app for DIRIGERA hub?

The app working with TRÅDFRI gateway is called "IKEA Home smart 1", and has a white icon. The new app working with DIRIGERA hub is called "IKEA Home smart", and has a yellow icon. Additionally, both apps have the functionality to notify you in case you try to connect the wrong app with your gateway or hub.

Will my scenes and timers remain after I factory reset DIRIGERA hub?

All scenes and timers need to be set up again after a factory reset of DIRIGERA hub. The same applies to TRÅDFRI gateway.

Can I see the battery status of remotes connected to DIRIGERA hub in the IKEA Home smart app?

Yes, you can see the battery status of remotes and smart blinds in the app. Select the device, click on the pen tool and "about device".

Will I receive a notification about low battery of remotes or smart blinds in the IKEA Home smart app?

This functionality is not included in the current version of the app but may be added in the future.

A remote connected to DIRIGERA hub is not working or visible in the app.

If the battery is completely drained the remote is offline and not visible in the app. Please replace the battery, the remote should connect by itself shortly after. If the problem persists, please remove it from the app/hub, factory reset it and pair it again. This should also resolve any firmware issues with the remote.

How can I find help in the IKEA Home smart app?

If you need help with a function or support, you can find the Help & support centre by clicking on the avatar symbol in the bottom right corner. There, you will find the support section with different options to choose from. During the installation process of DIRIGERA hub, you can click on the question mark icons to find out more.

A device connected to DIRIGERA hub has disappeared or is not reacting.

There may be several reasons for this. Try the following steps:
- Switch it off/power cut the device as a first step.
- If applicable, check if the battery is empty. If the battery is low, we suggest a change.
- If this has not helped, try to remove the device from the app/hub, factory reset it and pair it again.

This should also resolve any firmware issues with the device.

Will the app notify me when it is time to change my air filter?

No. For now, push notifications are not available.

Will my scenes still work even if there is no Wi-Fi connection to DIRIGERA?

Wi-Fi is not needed to activate scenes. As long as your DIRIGERA hub is on, your scenes will work as they have been planned.

What happens if I turn my DIRIGERA hub off?

All devices and scenes will not work if the DIRIGERA hub is off.

What happens if devices that are part of a scene have been switched off manually?

As long as those devices have electricity, they will work as scheduled or programmed. If they have been cut off from power, they will not react.

How many products can I connect to the DIRIGERA hub?

There is no official limit but the hub has a lot of memory space. It should be able to manage at least 100 devices.

Can I use TRÅDFRI gateway with the new or DIRIGERA hub with the old IKEA Home smart app?

The app working with TRÅDFRI gateway is called "IKEA Home smart 1", and has a white icon. The new app working with DIRIGERA hub is called "IKEA Home smart", and has a yellow icon. Additionally, both apps have the functionality to notify you in case you try to connect the wrong app with your gateway or hub.

Can I access and control my devices away from home?

Away-from-home access is currently available through the integration feature with e.g. Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa.

How do I know which version of IKEA Home smart app I am using?

Click the avatar icon on the bottom right, then click on the hub and "about the hub". You will find all your up-to-date hub and app information there.

Will older models of FLOALT light panels work with DIRIGERA hub?

Yes, older models of FLOALT work with DIRIGERA hub.

Is it possible to factory reset lights without a wall switch?

Using a wall switch is the only way to factory reset as of now. Please note that electric dimmer switches might not work the same way as wall switches. If the electric dimmer is able to cut off power, bulbs might not need to light up to initiate the pairing process when following the instructional video.

Do I have to give IKEA Home smart app location access permission to use the sunset/sunrise timer option?

Yes. Location access is necessary to make sunset/sunrise a meaningful option for timers. Without this permission DIRIGERA hub will not know how to time your scene based on when the sun sets or rises at your location.

My lights keep switching on after a power failure.

For now, there is no setting available for devices to remember their last state before losing electricity.

My FYRTUR blind is not working or does not appear in my IKEA Home smart app.

This may be due to a low battery level. Try recharging your battery. If the issue persists, reset your blind following the troubleshooting guide at IKEA.lv/smart-blinds.
