For better life at home

Can 1,4 billion re-sealable plastic bags make a difference? We hope so and proudly present our first ever large-scale bioplastic product. It’s the all-round plastic bag ISTAD that is now made mostly of a renewable material from the sugarcane industry. The shift is expected to save about 75.000 barrels of oil yearly and will significantly reduce CO2 emissions.

Choosing materials for positive change

Being a large business comes with large responsibilities for our planet and people. Striving to offer prices as low as possible, we do care about our impact on others. That's why we started making our re-sealable and re-usable bags ISTAD out of bioplastic. Although production costs became higher, the price for our customers remains the same. We constantly look for partners and challenge ourselves towards finding long-term sustainable resources to change the established rules of the industry.

PÅTÅR special edition: Introducing a single-origin high-quality 100% Arabica coffee from Uganda

Uganda is the biggest coffee exporting country in Africa, yet the average size of a coffee farm is less than 0,25 hectare – just a quarter the size of a football field. It’s not easy to run a profitable farm with such small resources. To support more sustainable farming practices, IKEA has teamed up with a regional coffee project. As a result, we’re now introducing our first ever single-origin coffee: 100% Arabica beans from the White Nile region.
