Last but not least – this time, "Home idea with IKEA" season's grand finale takes place in a one bedroom apartment in the picturesque town of Sigulda. The owner Ruta lives here for about seven years already, and her daughter Linda felt it was time for a makeover. She applied to the IKEA TV show in hope to give her beloved mother a more comfortable and more colourful home and luck was on her side! IKEA Interior Designer Kristīne has more up her sleeve than a simple makeover of one room. She is planning to renovate the whole apartment!

Upside down
The apartment seems minuscule, however, it serves well for Ruta and her small friend – a dog named Fidgy. Still, the layout of the apartment leaves a lot of room for improvement. Designer Kristīne is fast to discover the main issue obstructing the way of real cosiness: kitchen is in one room with the sleeping area but the sitting room is separated in another room.
Changing rooms
The former sleeping area is now a cosy living room set up by Kristīne with furniture already in the apartment. Now, the room is a haven for watching TV, reading a book or enjoying a cup of tea with friends. A new and fresh wall colour makes for a completely different impression, looks more modern and harmonises well with the light coloured kitchen.
A centimetre here, a centimetre there
The part where the kitchen is seemed rather empty and bare. Now, after the makeover it has been transformed in a multifunctional hub of everyday life. The magnetic board invites writing memos and attaching the best drawings of Ruta's grandchildren with some magnets. After makeover, there is even place for a foldable chair that can be hung on the wall when not needed.
A kitchen is more than it may seem
Ruta has several grandchildren and they are often welcome guests in her home. Now, she will finally have enough place for everybody. There is even a handy high chair for the smallest of children. For the others, there are comfy stools that can be stacked when not in use and take up almost no space at all. Ruta is already looking forward to enjoying some sweets together with her beloved ones!
"In small spaces it is very important to use every centimetre so I always think about how to better use the wall space. There are so many shelves, hooks and hangers that allow to use space vertically and to exhibit your favourite things! Another thing to think about is colour. In most cases, light nuances are better for small rooms as they create an illusion of more space than there actually is."

A brand new bedroom
After the makeover, the old sitting room is unrecognizable. It has become a realm of peace that invites to relax. Behind the headboard of the bed, there is a wardrobe that serves both as a visual and a felt division, seemingly separating the sleeping area. The wardrobe is spacious enough to fit even the vacuum cleaner that is often too bulky to put away. Behind the wardrobe, there is even a mirror. In it, designer Kristīne has found place for some hooks for belts and scarves.
A bed for sweet dreams
At last, Ruta will not have to sleep on a couch. She now has a bed and this bed even has some storage for sheets, duvets, books and other things. At the bed, there is lighting  for reading before sleep after making herself comfortable in the soft pillows. In the day, pillows are nice accessories.
A beauty parlour at home
It has always been Ruta's dream to have a dressing table, but she thought there was just not enough space for that. However, IKEA Interior Designer Kristīne has found place Ruta didn't even know existed! Kristīne planned a personalised PLATSA solution and now Ruta has a place to put all the out-of-season things and a place for her beauty rituals.

Impressions of the festive season
It's not long anymore until we start to feel Christmas in the air again and Designer Kristīne decided to create some festive atmosphere. The soft light of STRÅLA will be a beacon of light even in the darkest evenings of autumn and winter and will bring light and peace of heart into home.
