It often happens that life and family situations change and several generations find themselves living under one roof. This is the case in the Eglītis family, where the grandmother, is welcomed to live in the family home of Gunta. Although the house is spacious, the family has not managed to furnish a separate room: there is a room, but it has served mostly as a storage room, and it has not been freed from clutter to create a cosy living space for the grandmother.

Before: a room with no space for life

Gunta admits that there is a lack of space for the grandmother to make herself comfortable. At the moment, there is a bed in the room, but there is no wardrobe and over time a lot of clutter has accumulated. The atmosphere is not harmonious and relaxing. The biggest challenge for designer Olga will be to find the right storage solution, place for clothes and the right furniture for sleeping and relaxing.

After: cosy and stylish

After the transformation, the former "warehouse" is no longer recognizable. Instead, there is a bright and harmonious Scandinavian-style room that delights with its practicality and functionality. Olga has chosen to paint the walls in two colours: this method is used in interior design to make the lower part of the wall "pull together" the whole interior and create a unified look.

How to keep order easily

Good order is important for well-being at any age. Before the makeover, Maruta admitted that lack of storage is one of the main causes of discomfort. Olga has solved the storage problem by combining several classic pieces from the HEMNES collection. The white colour compliments the light, warm wood and instantly creates a cosy atmosphere, while the spacious shelves and drawers have space for everything you need. To avoid a massive impression, the combination includes both open and closed compartments, as well as glass doors behind which to display beloved items.

A place for well deserved relaxing

When planning a room where most of the day is spent in, relaxing area is a must. A comfortable armchair, complete with a floor lamp and a small table for a book and a cup of tea, is a wonderful way to catch a breath. Seniors be very particular when choosing a chair: it is best for it not to be too low so it is easier to stand up.

A multifunctional sleeping area

In a multifunctional room, a classic bed may not be the best choice. In such cases, a bed that doubles as a sofa during the day and can easily be converted into a bed before bedtime is a good solution. Here, wardrobes are symmetrically placed on either side of the bed, while the wall is complemented by lighting, hangers to keep small items handy and artwork that emphasises the prevailing natural colour palette.

Subtle storage solutions

There is no such thing as too much storage! This bed has spacious drawers that can be used for bed linen or extra blankets, pillows or other items. When you close the drawers, it's all hidden away, but still close at hand. When designing a wardrobe, it's a good idea to think about convenience: here, the wardrobe has built-in lighting so that there is always a good overview.
"An interior is rarely created from scratch, so the new solution has to take into account the present layout and details. In this room, I used wooden accessories to link the existing elements (wooden windowsill, door frame) with the new design. With the HOVOLM wooden hangers I created a dividing line above the bed, which not only has a decorative function, but also makes it easy to hang things on the bed that you don't want to reach for or climb out of bed for."
