In the 3rd episode of the 3rd season of "Home idea with IKEA" we'll be visiting a happy family of four. For a long time, they were only a family of three, but were recently joined by the newest member – a little ray of sunshine named Alīna. The decision to welcome another child in the family was taken already some time ago, but the possibility for that arose unexpectedly so the room had to be prepared within a couple of days. The family dotes on Alīna and gives her all they can but improving of her room has been somewhat neglected in the light of much needed creation of a close relationship and other more urgent matters. An exciting task for the IKEA Interior Designer Līva – creation of a real home for a small and active girl.

Throwing together an interior
Before, this room was used as a storage space. As the news about Alīnas impending arrival was received, the room had to be rearranged rather quickly. When asked about unwanted features in this room, parents name the wardrobe. It lacks door and many things are stored in boxes as the inner organisation is not efficient enough. Most of Alīna's clothing is stored on hangers but they are so high that she cannot reach them without help. There is also no comfortable bookshelf. The interior of the room is down-to-earth and functional but it lacks personality. Alina would also like it more colourful and cheerful.
A splash of colour
The new interior boasts much more colour than the old one. As it is custom in children's rooms, all the things tend to be rather colourful so it is advisable to choose a colour scheme to give the interior a sense of unity. Here, turquoise acts as a background and dominates the room, reflecting in the curtains, the carpet and even bed linen. Under the bed, there is a place for relaxing with a special feature – a lamp. Books can be displayed on shelves in such a way that their covers are visible so that they stir child's curiosity.
A home of her own
Young children like it to have a place in their room where they can be alone and undisturbed. If the child sleeps in a higher bed, it is easy to create such a space on the "round floor". Here, curtains have been installed under the bed for more privacy. As there is a lamp under the bed, there is both a possibility to indulge in play and to read quietly.
Small space storage
If a room is quite small, storage has to be smart so as not to create an overcrowded impression. This room is long and narrow so the best place for a wardrobe is along one of the shorter walls. As the door resembles a wall, this spacious wardrobe does not look too bulky and the mirrored door not only gives an opportunity to see yourself in full length, it also reflects light and makes the room lighter. A great storage for children's things are colourful boxes, easy for children to take out and put back again.

A place for learning and creativity
Even a kindergartener needs an own desk to draw and colour and so many other things! An adjustable desk is a smart option as it grows together with the child and you can use it for years to come. The wall behind the desk can be used for storage. A pegboard complete with accessories is great for all the small things that tend to be lost.
The joy of colour
Colours can have several functions in children's room. They bring more joy in everyday life and can help the child to remember where to put each thing. In Alīna's room Designer Elīna has added labels. In this way, children can learn more easily. A great thing to have in children's room is stepping stool – it is stable and sturdy and can be used to reach things higher up.
